Creek Falls

I get the best pieces out of monotony. In the case of Creek Falls, the monotony was jury duty. Thank goodness for my trusty Port-O-Studio!
After watching the mandatory video on how to be a good juror, I went to my phone to find something to draw. After a moment or three, I found a shot I took in Olympic National Park in Washington State. When I took the picture, I always thought I would draw it someday, and what better time to draw it than during jury duty?
Looking at the image, I kept telling myself not to over-render the piece. I wanted to let the different shades of gray tell most of the story. So, I pulled out my pencil and started sketching. As I sketched, I thought about how I’d render the shadows and draw the trees and waterfalls. Once the sketch was finished, I started with ink washes.
Then my group was called. They thanked us for our service to the community and sent us home. YES!
I picked up my stuff and headed home. Once there, I went into my studio and pulled out my drawing. It was time to finish, so I did with a few washes of ink followed by a couple more. I added just a bit of line-work to finish the piece I call Creek Falls.
If you like this piece, you can purchase a print or two.
