Looking Towards Tomorrow

Being an artist requires observance. You must be aware of the world around you. You never know when a moment will arise. I believe you are either born with a good eye or can develop one. Either way, it takes time to understand what you see and turn it into art.
This piece started with a trip to Knott’s Berry Farm with some family members, including my nephew and his wife and child. We spent all day at Knott’s and had a wonderful time. It’s Knott’s, why wouldn’t we?
Our trip there occurred in late November, and the park was adorned with Christmas decorations. At one point, there was a bit of a presentation, and it suddenly began to snow. At Knott’s, “snow” is created with high-pressure nozzles that shoot out soap snow. My nephew had his boy on his shoulders, and the lad looked up at the snow in amazement. I knew this was a special moment, so I took several pictures with my phone.
Using a photo for reference doesn’t mean replicating the photo exactly. While working on the drawing, I never planned to replicate the snowflakes. I just wanted the image of the child looking up. The photo had great lighting, and I was inspired. Instead, I showed him looking into the ever-expanding universe and the multitude of possibilities that lay before him.
Happy first Birthday, Kasey!
