Mountain Lake

Mountain Lake

My wife's office has no windows. After being inside there for as many hours as she was, she asked if I would paint her a window. Now, I try to be a good husband, so I pulled out some reference photos and got to work.

I used images from Northern California, Mount Shasta, Washington State, trees from the Olympic Peninsula, and some deer I found online. I confess I enjoy creating this type of piece. A natural-looking image that has been created by adding photos from different areas. You might wonder why a lake is meandering through the trees instead of being a large body of water. Well, sometimes, two or three lakes are joined by a tributary. I found this out while camping at Priest Lake in Idaho a few summers ago. Now, I say all of the above to let you in on a secret. The tributary on this painting is, in reality, a road. Yep, it’s asphalt. If you throw in enough imagination, a road can become a lake, and a mountain from California can fit as well. T

his is the window I created for her. She was pretty pleased with it, took it to work, and hung it on the wall. I received a kiss and a hug, and all was right in the world.
