My Good Side

This is the second version of this lovely lady. The first was a watercolor that, and please forgive the language, I absolutely hate. I admit I am not the best watercolorist in the world, and it’s just not my forte. But the piece I did pretty much sucks sewer water. My wife said she likes it, but she kind of has to. I think it’s actually part of the wedding vows.
So, for this edition of “Drawing on Saturdays with Rick,” I found the same reference photo and started to get busy. The photo I used was taken at South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. I took it on a two-day safari in the park, and it was an absolute blast.
Back to the drawing. I started out with a pencil sketch. Then, I broke out the pens to do the linework. Once that was done, I used light washes of ink to denote the shadows and spots on the giraffe. To finish it off, I broke out a white charcoal pencil and used it to accent the highlights.
This time, she turned out much better.
