The Horseman

I have always enjoyed going to the movies. Back in my twenty’s my friends and I would get in a car and drive to the theater and drive around looking for a good show to watch. When you’re in a car, you rely on the movie posters to let you know how good or bad the movie would be. That was when I was introduced to the artwork of Drew Struzan. He is one of the best, in my opinion, movie poster artists that had put pencil to paper.
Fast forward to 2013. I was looking at Drew’s website ogling his many posters and other paintings, when there was an advertisement for a video of Drew painting a poster for Hell Boy. It was supposed to show his methods and kind of be a step-by-step instruction. Well, I pulled out my card and ordered it. I waited with anticipation for the CD to come. When it came didn’t disappoint.
Now Mr. Struzan uses very thin paint sprayed through and airbrush to create his pieces, then uses colored pencil to add details. So, I thought, I can do the same with Oil paints. The Horseman, is my first attempt to create a painting influenced by Drew Struzan.
